The Anne Zernike Fund was established on November 6th, 2011 to honour Rev. Anne Zernike, the first female pastor in the Netherlands, ordained in the Mennonite congregation of Bovenknijpe on November 5th 1911.
The aims of the Anne Zernike Fund are
- to improve social and theological acceptance of female (Mennonite/Anabaptist) theologians and pastors worldwide and strengthen their position by giving a small additional financial support (scholarship) – if and when necessary;
- to present Mennonite/Anabaptist congregations worldwide with an award when they ordain a female pastor for the first time. The award can be applied for by the pastor, by a member of the congregation or by a ‘third party’;
- to present an honorary award to exceptional persons who served the above.
The Anne Zernike Fund is based in the Netherlands, hosted by doopsgezind WereldWerk and cooperates with relevant national and international organizations. As an organization she is financially and legally independent.
